Q: What facade systems and materials do you work with?
We specialize in high-performance facade systems including:
-
Q: Can your systems handle coastal weather and harsh climates like Whistler?
Absolutely. We specialize in high-performance building envelopes designed for demanding climates. All of our systems are compliant with Passive House certification standards, which is the highest benchmark for building envelope performance. Whether you're dealing with coastal salt air, extreme winter conditions, or freeze-thaw cycles, our facades are engineered to perform.
-
Q: Are your systems suitable for LEED-certified buildings?
Yes. We have completed several LEED Gold certified projects with our facade systems. Our high-performance envelopes contribute to the energy efficiency and sustainability criteria required for LEED certification at all levels.
-
Q: What is Passive House and why does it matter?
Passive House (Passivhaus) is the world's most rigorous building energy performance standard. Buildings certified to Passive House standards use up to 90% less heating and cooling energy than conventional buildings, while maintaining exceptional indoor comfort year-round.
The standard focuses on five key principles: superior insulation, airtight construction, high-performance windows and doors, thermal bridge-free design, and heat recovery ventilation. When these elements work together, the building envelope becomes so efficient that it requires minimal mechanical heating or cooling; the building essentially "passively" maintains comfortable temperatures.
Why does it matter? Passive House buildings dramatically reduce energy costs, eliminate drafts and cold spots, improve indoor air quality, and significantly lower carbon emissions. For homeowners, this means lower utility bills and greater comfort. For developers and architects, it represents the future of sustainable building design.
At Blackcomb Facade Technology, all of our facade systems are designed to meet Passive House certification standards, ensuring your building envelope delivers maximum performance and long-term value.
-
Q: Who installs your facade systems?
For projects in Canada, we provide our own experienced installation teams to ensure quality control from fabrication through to installation. For international projects, we provide comprehensive technical support and on-site supervision for local installation contractors, ensuring the same high standards regardless of location.
-
Q: Where is the RAICO system manufactured?
Blackcomb Facade Technology sources components from RAICO in Germany and manufactures all curtain wall assemblies, doors, and operable vents at our facility in Langley, BC. This combination of German engineering and local craftsmanship ensures both quality and responsiveness.
-
Q: Where do you source timber for the RAICO Timber HI curtain wall?
All timber curtain wall mullions are sourced locally in British Columbia. The timber is delivered to our shop pre-finished to your specifications, then undergoes final processing and rigorous quality control at our Langley facility before installation.
-
Q: Where do you source your glass?
We work with carefully selected glass fabricators in Asia, British Columbia, and Europe. Every supplier is pre-certified by our team to meet our stringent quality standards, ensuring consistent performance and aesthetics across all our projects.
-
Q: Can you create curved facades?
Yes. We have extensive experience with both compound curved facades and curved skylight systems. Our engineering and fabrication capabilities allow us to execute complex geometric designs while maintaining the structural integrity and thermal performance you expect.
-
Q: Do you work with BIM 3D design software?
Yes. We fully support integrated design development using BIM (Building Information Modeling) software. BIM creates intelligent, virtual models that improve coordination and reduce errors. We work seamlessly with Revit, AutoCAD, SolidWorks, and CADWorks to integrate with your design team's workflow.
